Do you trust the media?

Do you trust the media? Briefly about their impact on us

As we all know, the media have the greatest impact on public awareness today. Do you trust the media? After all, the ability to quickly and almost completely reach the widest audience gives them the opportunity to change the traditional system of spiritual production. And now, in developed socio-political systems, the dominant argument is that those who own the media control public opinion. Already only these words make you think, what if someone will take advantage of such opportunities only in their favor. That's why I want to ask you exactly - do you trust the media?

"Those who own the media have public opinion." How do they inspire confidence?

In general, public opinion is shaped by people's own practical experience. And their direct confrontation with social problems, on the one hand, and the media, on the other. In addition, they simultaneously shape and express public opinion.

The positive or negative influence of the media is realized through the content and form of the message. The content and way of perception will lead to certain changes in us and will affect our behavior. That is why society, parents and teachers are trying to protect the younger generation from information harmful to society.

What instruments of influence do the media use?

If we do not understand the media or the mechanism for achieving the goals of the media, then our understanding of the influence of the media will be superficial. Therefore, I will briefly talk about their impact on us further. The tools of mass media influence include: persuasion, suggestion, psychological infection, manipulation.

Do you trust the media?

Persuasion By persuasion, we mean a type of influence on consciousness with the help of logically ordered arguments (evidence, facts) and reasonable conclusions. Which confirm or form the recipient's attitude to someone or something, which leads to informed decisions, meaningful action (behavior).

Another property has a manipulative effect. But before we cover that, let's briefly break down the other methods. Which are commonly used for manipulation and related propaganda.

Do you trust the media: Suggestion and how manipulators use it

Suggestion differs from belief in that information is perceived in a passive, non-critical understanding of information, instead of an active one. The basis of influence on the audience is faith, trust and emotion. Manipulators use people's tendency to suggestion, conquest. Their task is to reduce the intelligence of the recipient, and vice versa, and to induce emotion, tension, depression or confusion.

Do you trust the media? Psychological media infection

At the same time, suggestions are an integral part of another means of influencing a media psychological infection. The essence of psychological infection lies in the transmission through verbal and non-verbal messages of an emotional state, relationships (for example, panic, fear), infecting the audien

Do you trust the media? Manipulationce with them.

Finally, let's consider a special type of media influence - manipulation (Latin technique - from technique-hand and pies-filling, filling; literally, actions performed by hands). From the Latin explanation, it is clear that the effectiveness of manipulation is associated with flexibility, dexterity and skill.

Unlike persuasion, manipulation is always hidden. They are based on targeted impact on a mass audience. By guiding her towards the manipulator in the right direction to evoke the desired emotions and behavior. In this case, the goal itself is hidden from the audience. And in a certain way, carefully planned and organized information is a tool for achieving influence. The information used for manipulation is intended for automatic and non-critical perception, and makes it interesting for the reader.

An interesting example of media manipulation

With the strengthening of the restrictive measures, which came into force on April 6, many users, as well as journalists, became interested - how will they celebrate Easter now? The day when people gather in large numbers near churches for the consecration of Easter and other dishes. Like, it's forbidden!

Surprisingly, many of them such reflections have led to an unexpected conclusion - "The Cabinet has forbidden to celebrate Easter." This is a header manipulation. At least the word "massively" dropped from him. And in the end, on April 4, at a teleconference between the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and the head of the National Police Igor Klimenko, they agreed. Conducting divine services in churches in compliance with sanitary quarantine standards and with the participation of no more than 10 people is NOT FORBIDDEN. This is a very interesting case, although there are many such cases.

Personally, I come to the conclusion that often the media just needs a sensation. To be read and watched. They benefit from this and often resort to various media tools. After all, remember how many fake articles on COVID-19 were. It's not just guesswork. This is evidenced by the results of the USAID-Internews sociological survey "Public attitudes towards the media and consumption of various types of media in 2019" were presented on October 22 in Ukrinform.

"Do you trust the media?" To find out exactly your opinion, I propose to take part in the survey. After all, I wonder how many votes will prevail
